<p>Before you read this, go look in the mirror. Close your eyes and visualize how much better your body would look with ten pounds of lean muscle on your frame. Visualize how well your favorite shirt would fit and how big your arms or shoulders would look. Now do this, go find your training log and look at your past three months of training. Have you made consistent progress and increased your sets or weights every workout?</p>
<p>Even if you have, if you have gotten stronger have you gotten bigger? Are you doing the right things to prime your body for growth? There is a reason that the guy who always looks like he is growing is getting bigger. No, it has nothing to do with steroids either. If you follow the ten pound diagnosis, you will be following a step-by-step blueprint for transforming your physique from pebble to rock hard.</p>
<p>Diagnosis 1 You need to address your bigger muscle fibers.</p>
<p>Muscles really do not know how much weight is on the bar, they just know how much tension they are experiencing. It is tension that recruits Type II b or fast twitch fibers and that is what we are really after and it is really well known in the field that the Type II b fibers are the ones that have, by far, have the greatest capacity to enlarge or to hypertrophy. Successful training methods need to address Type II b fiber stimulation and consequently hypertrophy.</p>
<p>You can lift a heavy weight and create a lot of tension because there is a lot of force but I think the most tension is developed when you use moderate weights and when you apply acceleration to those weights. So what you need to do right now is train with slightly lower reps (4-8 reps) but lift the weight faster than you have been doing.</p>
<p>Diagnosis 2 Reassess your mind frame.</p>
<p>There are two kinds of mind sets that you can have. If you look at people in the health club or in the gym-there are two mind sets. The first is like an exerciser mind set. As an exerciser, whether you want to lose fat or gain muscle you are very wrapped up in the whole world thermodynamics so if you are trying to gain muscle you are thinking Ok I need to train hard and I need to really rest and I need to take  certain number of protein and I need to get a certain number of calories so that I have caloric surplus. </p>
<p>And conversely if you are trying to drop body fat and you are saying to yourself well alright I am eating 1500 calories a day and I am 45 minutes on the treadmill and you had a plateau and the question is: Where do you go from there? You now go to 1200 calories a day doing an hour on the treadmill. There is no, to me there is no happy end game in all of these. To me it just strikes me as a monotonous kind of not very aspirational kind of way of life. </p>
<p>The other way to think about it is-as an athlete and I have been an athlete all my life in different sports and not a good athlete by any stretch but an athlete nonetheless and I do not know when I go to the gym I am thinking about how I am going to improve myself that day. What I can do to improve my technique on the Olympic Lift. I am thinking about maybe I will get a personal record. When is my next competition going to be? That is a kind of aspirational mind set, I mean that is something I can wake up.</p>
<p>Diagnosis 3 Vary Your Training Every Three To Four Weeks</p>
<p>I found that the lower body is a little dumber if you will, and takes a little longer to adapt and thus you can keep people on say squats and dead lifts and variations thereof a little bit longer than you would for upper body movements. So I found that you tend to vary upper body movements more than lower body. Now the problem too is that there is something called the variable recovery system. </p>
<p>We know for instance that arm, so take your biceps will recover much quicker than say your legs particularly the hamstrings. So the arms can be hit a little more often than legs and because of that you will have a greater frequency of arm movements and body split training is quite popular especially foe advanced athletes because of the fact that they are tapping into this variable recovery system. Not everything recovers to the same rate. Whole body systems can be quite demanding especially for advanced athletes since your constantly pounding the body with big movements like squats and dead lift stroke to weeks.</p>
<p>Diagnosis 4 Properly Mix In Compound And Isolation Exercises</p>
<p>In general you want to emphasize the big multi joint compound movements however training economy will dictate what you do in the particular program. I mean if someone is going to train once or thrice a week then make sure, you want to ensure that you are given the big movements. If you have someone that wants optimal gains I think you need to have a healthy mix of both compound and isolation type movements. </p>
<p>Now to truly isolate is difficult particularly at high intensity. So if you take a movement such as triceps press down for instance, research shows that at high intensities there is greater EMG or electrical activity in the abdominals than there are in the triceps themselves when you are doing that movement. So as the intensities surge increase it is actually quite difficult to truly isolate a muscle but with that said I think it is important that you incorporate some isolation movements.</p>

<p>9. Do not pressure your child to clean his or her plate.  Research indicates that children are born with good control of their eating.  Children will eat when they are hungry and will stop when they are full.  Children who are forced to eat more than what they want can lose their natural ability to control their food intake and hunger is no longer what makes them eat.  This can also lead to eating issues and eating disorders in the future.</p>
<p>10. Average time to allow for snacks is 10-15 minutes and for meals 20-30 minutes.  Your child should have been able to eat or drink what he or she wanted in this period.  Remove any remaining food and your child from the table and wait until the next scheduled meal or snack time before offering food or drink again. </p>
<p>11. Avoid eliminating certain foods.  An environment where certain food items are denied often backfires.  Instead, encourage balance, moderation and variety.</p>

<p>Los Angeles is a city rich in history and culture, and as such there are many historic Los Angeles restaurants still standing today. <p>One of these is Barneys Beanery, located on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood on what was once a part of Route 66.  This restaurant has the distinction of having been patronized by many of the stars of the silver screen, and of being the third oldest restaurant in Los Angeles.  The founder and original owner, John Barney Anthony,  first opened the restaurant in 1920, and designed the menu to reflect his love for traditional American cuisine, and many of the same items chosen by Anthony are still featured on the menu to this day. The bar in Barneys Beanery is featured in the movie The Doors and is rumored to have been a particular favorite of Doors singer Jim Morrison and another singer of the day, Janis Joplin. </p>
<p>Hollywoods oldest restaurant, however is Musso and Frank, which first opened its doors in 1919 and has been catering to Hollywood legends ever since.   Table number one in the west room was silent film star Charlie Chaplins regular table, and  the great American writers William Faulkner and Ernest Hemmingway patronized the establishment frequently. Orson Wells, as well, was rumored to frequent it. Frank and Mussos  oak beamed ceilings red leather booths, and hearty American Continental faire will make you feel as though you have stepped into a time warp.</p>
<p>Another favorite among the many historic Los Angeles restaurants is the Tam O Shanter which was established in 1922 by Lawrence Frank and Walter Van de Kamp at a time  when it was still possible to drive there through dusty country roads.  Over time, the Tam became the favorite dining establishment of John Wayne, Mary Pickford, Walt Disney, and the members of the Disney studio.  In 1968, the Tam was remodeled and renamed the Great Scot, but the hospitality and cuisine remained the same. In 1982, in honor of the restaurants sixtieth anniversary, the name was changed back to the Tam O Shanter Inn, and patrons today can still sample some of the restaurants signature dishes, like Scots Rarebit and Toad in The Hole. </p>

<p>Wheels - it is the most important part of any vehicle. The initial wheels used a wooden hub with a steel axle, spokes made of wood and an iron tire which is fitted on the outside. The wheels used today have a metal hub, metallic wire spokes, a metal rim to hold the spokes and a pneumatic rubber tire on the outside. Another important part of the wheel are the bearings which allows free movement of the hub on the axle. </p>
<p>Frame - most of the bicycles used today has the diamond frame. It`s made up of two triangles, the front and the rear. The front triangle has the top tube, head tube, seat tube and down tube. Head tube is the part containing the headset of bearing to allow smooth steering, the top tube connects to the seat, and the down tube connects the head tube and bottom bracket. The rear triangle has the seat tube, seat stays and paired chain stays. </p>
<p>Drivetrain - it consists of the pedals, which rotates the crank arms, which in turn are attached to a sprocket or chainrings which drives the chain and makes the rear wheel rotate. </p>
<p>Seating and Steering - steering is made possible using the handlebars which turns the front wheel. For seating there are saddles on the top of the frame. The seating can be designed for comfort or to make cycling smoother and faster.</p>
<p>Brakes - the brakes used in modern bicycles are either rim brakes that uses pads to compress the wheel from 2 sides and stopping it, internal hub brakes that has the pads inside the hubs or disc brakes. Braking in bicycles is hand-operated by pressing the brake levers installed on the handlebars on either side.</p>
<p>Suspension - it is the system incorporated to make the cycling experience smoother. </p>
<p>Accessories - parts like mudguards to avoid spray from puddles, chain guards to save clothes from oils, kick stands to keep the bicycle upright while parked have become permanent features of a bicycle. Other accessories like front baskets, rear racks, space for head lamp, a pump, helmets, tool kit etc are also available as per ordered. </p>

<p>Being a South Asian British born Bangladeshi woman, I was taught how to cook popular Bengali and Indian cuisines from scratch - I believe this maybe the reason why I am no longer fond of eating curry at restaurants even if they have been made from fresh food ingredients. True to my heart is the belief that no curry can be as tasty and well prepared than my own mothers! As she was born and raised in Bangladesh, she never knew how to use fancy cooking tools except a knife, wooden spoon and a pan.</p>
<p>Cooking a curry is not as simple as it is made available today in supermarkets, with ready-made jars of Rogan Josh and Madras sauces that need to be added to cooked meats. I am accustomed to eating curries made from fresh food; I find these fast food cuisines to be a little too tasteless for my taste buds! However, I do believe they are a great way to maintain a cultural perspective on good food. </p>
<p>Cooking curries are all about being passionate about the smell of spices, creating unique colours, tickling the taste buds with different spice sensations and most importantly of all turning fresh food ingredients into a gourmet masterpiece. When cooking any curry, my mother had taught me to use my instincts and to cook from the heart as if you are creating your own artistic masterpiece. Cooking a curry does take a bit of time, depending on what you are cooking, you need to be extra patient with waiting for things to cook properly. </p>
<p>Using fresh ingredients and grinding up your own spice could not be more satisfying. Using fresh chillies, coriander, cinnamon, cumin, ginger and garlic to produce a purely mouth-watering dish is unbeatable and once tasted in its true nothing else will compare. Traditionally Indian dishes are meant to be a little dryer than what they are in the UK, this of course depends upon what region the dish originates from, but sauces are usually only a third of what most restaurants offer. Good quality curries are those that are made from fresh ingredients. </p>
<p>I have seen dishes almost drowning in tomato like sauces that are unnecessary. The key thing to remember is how well you cook the spices and onions before adding all the other ingredients. Take chicken curry for example, the base of the dish needs to be cooked for at least 30-40 minutes on a medium to low gas level, making sure all of the onions have softened and browned in the oil (almost as if they are melting). Whilst softening add a few bay leaves, salt, cardamom seeds and a stick of cinnamon to give it a nice aroma. </p>
<p>Then add the spices one at a time making sure you do not use too much turmeric. Cook and simmer through gently, this process should take at least 30 minutes and try not burn anything - a little tip if you find the base is starting to stick to the pan, turn the heat down a little and add some water (about half a cup full) and continue stirring for a bit. It is best to leave it and come back to it every 4 minutes or as frequently as you can. Taste it before adding the chicken, what you taste for is no grainy consistency in the sauce, enough salt content and all of the spices tasting like they have melded well together.</p>
<p>Cooking the chicken curry will take at least an hour or an hour and a half, depending on how much you make. The idea is that you do not have to do any marinating beforehand and cooking at this length of time with help achieve the soft spicy chicken texture in the curry. Taking the time to cook anything does indeed take a lot of patience and effort, but the result is always much more satisfying. Using fresh food is necessary for enjoying curry, for me nothing else compares and each dish can be frozen for up to five days or more, if you prefer to cook in bulk and eat later.</p>

<p>The drive in restaurant conjures up images of carhops wearing striped dresses, aprons, and roller skates, of jukebox music and restaurant menus featuring burgers, fries, and malts. More than one drive in restaurant has laid claim to being the first in the US, but most agree that the Pig Stand in Dallas, Texas is the one that deserves this coveted honor. In 121, JG Kirby opened his restaurant, because he thought that his customers would be too lazy to come inside.  Little did Kirby know that he was launching an idea that would soon take the nation by storm. </p>
<p>Another restaurant in Glendale, CA, which opened in 1936, also claims to have been the first, but in any case, the popularity of this type of establishment reached its peak in the 1950s, when competition from fast food restaurants like McDonalds became too intense.  Eating in the car was a big attraction for most people, and the added feature of the carhops, who were usually women but sometimes men, who would deliver your food to you on special trays designed to hang from the windows of your car, made this type of restaurant essentially ubiquitous during this time period.  </p>
<p>Although the image of the carhop is usually one of a teenaged girl on roller skates, most carhops did not actually wear them. Many restaurants did use gimmicks to make their establishment stand out from the crowd however. Most required some type of uniform for their hops and some did make skates part of this ensemble, but there were also drive ins where you could see clown costume clad carhops balancing trays of burgers and fries as they weaved through the sea of cars surrounding the building.  Restaurant menus for these drive ins usually stuck to the basics, but a few, like Sonic, which is still in operation today, offered extras like Coney dogs and cheese corn dogs and other unique items. The Penguin in Wisconsin even had seafood related items, like cups of clam chowder on its menu. </p>
<p>Some of these restaurants, like Sonic, exist today, and many regularly hold 40s and 50s nights, complete with period music, costumes, and entertainment as a way of remembering the time periods in American history when restaurant menus were simple, computerized ordering was just a dream, and you did not even have to leave your car or drive off of the lot to enjoy a hot meal with your family, a group of friends, or your date.</p>

<p>We all know about the standard vitamins that you&#8217;ll see on the food and drug administration approved Nutrition Facts labels.  These are found on grocery items and fast food menus.  Such vitamins include: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Protein and so on.  Those are the obvious ones.  </p>

Once again, there are a lot of variables which will determine how successful you will be at losing weight this way. Previous research indicated that for every pound of muscle you added to your body, your resting metabolic rate would increase by 60 calories. That&#8217;s a fantastic finding, meaning that if you add five pounds of new muscle, you will automatically burn an additional 31 pounds of fat in a year. By adding this muscle you will also tone your look, so whether or not the scale says differently, you body composition is going to change for the better. There is merit to this plan, even though the research has not born out the claims that each pound of new muscle burns 60 calories of fat per hour. No one knows for sure how much fat you will burn by adding muscle; it seems to depend upon your gender, your age and your past history of exercis<br />

In the end, though, there is good reason to add weight bearing exercises to your exercise plan; regardless of the amount of additional fat you will burn, you WILL burn more fat, especially in the two hours after your workout. Also, weight bearing exercise decreases your odds of getting osteoporosis, something you haven&#8217;t likely given much thought to if you are still under 60, but something you will be especially happy about when you are older. </p>
<p>So what should you do? Because no one can tell you for sure how much weight you will lose given either strategy, and because you need to add activity to your lifestyle for the rest of your life, the best thing to do is to add activities which you enjoy doing anyway. Promise yourself at least four, one hour activity slots per week, and PUT THEM IN YOUR CALENDAR. It&#8217;s really easy to allow exercise to drop to the bottom of your to-do list, especially if you already have too much to do and not enough time. By putting the appointments in your calendar, you are agreeing to make it a priority to keep yourself healthy. Make it a priority; the same priority you would give going to work and don&#8217;t let other people&#8217;s needs get in the way. Then, do what you love. Try new activities; curling, squash, racquetball, spinning, biking, volleyball; the list is endless. If you choose activities you enjoy, rather than repetitive exercises on the treadmill or climber, you will have a greater chance<br />
  of sticking with them throughout the rest of your life. If you have been a bit of a loner in your exercises so far, getting out and being part of a team will do wonders both for your weight loss and your soul. And the great thing is that many of these activities combine both aerobic exercise and weight bearing together. If you feel that you should have some degree of real exercise each week, add a treadmill/weight lifting session to just one of your scheduled sessions. That way, you will feel as if you are doing the &#8220;real work&#8221; of exercise while enjoying your weekly activities.</p>
<p>In the end, any exercise speeds up weight loss. While the jury is out on how many calories, or how much fat you will lose exactly, there is plenty of research to indicate that you will build muscle, burn more fat and feel better. What are you waiting for? Go out and start having fun! Your body, and your scale, will love you for it.</p>

<p>Let&#8217;s face it, not everyone enjoys breakfast. While most early-to-rise types are ready for food early in the a.m., many who consider themselves night owls cannot stomach the thought. Unfortunately for the night owls, skipping breakfast has many negative consequences, especially when you are trying to lose weight. While theoretically the idea of eating less food by skipping breakfast sounds like a useful idea, practice has shown skipping breakfast sabotages your dieting successes made later on in the day. How could that be? By missing breakfast one would most likely forgo between 300-400 calories. In fact, 10 days of going without breakfast would cause you to lose over a pound, by those counts. Unfortunately, your body knows that it is running without its morning fuel, and finds other ways around the loss.</p>
<p>First of all, by going without breakfast, we leave our body without fuel for nearly 12 hours or more. Sure, you may not be hungry early on, but by lunch or later in the afternoon when you finally give in, you are sure to over eat by more than those calories you missed at breakfast. This is because your blood sugar has dropped so low by that time that you begin to feel shaky, ravenous and irritable. You are far less able to fight temptation when you are caught in the midst of such a strong physical need for food, and much less likely to heed the signs of satiety when it has been so long since you havefed your body. Perhaps you are one of the few that possess an iron will? Maybe you are sure that you will not overeat or choose unwisely. Unfortunately, even with your will of iron, you will still not gain (i.e. lose pounds) by pushing away breakfast. Your body is a remarkably smart machine. If you have not fed it in more than 5-6 hours, but are still requiring it to keep up with<br />
 your physical tasks, it will respond by slowing down your metabolism. Who would have thought that by eating you would raise your metabolism? Turns out it is true. The process of eating and digesting burns some calories by raising your metabolism. So, how early do you want your metabolism raised?  </p>
<p>Finally, choosing to eat in the morning does not just get your metabolism going, studies have shown that women have greater amounts of calcium and fiber intake on the days that they choose to eat breakfast. Both calcium and fiber have been shown to be associated with successful weight loss, so you really do want more of both of those nutrients. Also breakfast eating in children is associated with greater cognitive skills, better moods and better grades. It is not too hard to believe that those same benefits are available to you, and when dieting, do not we all need something to help us with our moods?</p>
