Most people that know how to burn body fat usually make drastic changes to their lifestyle. However, many people don’t know the right changes to make. Sure we hear on the news and from all the gurus out there what to do. However, as valid as these approaches are, most of us fail at these valiant attempts.

One of those methods I would like to write about is starvation diets. If you want to burn that extra fat off yourself, you may want to seriously consider avoiding these types of diets. There are a few reasons why starvation diets don’t work.

Starvation Diets are not Practical

Usually on a starvation a diet, people not only cut out foods that are unhealthy but they seem to cut out all other foods as well (including their favorite foods). While it may work for you one to two days, it’s not practical for the long term.

Since starvation diets are not practical. You are not really teaching yourself how to eat healthy. You will lose some weight in the short term. However, you’re really fighting a losing battle. The body needs food for energy so if you think you are never going to eat again, you may want to reconsider.

Starvation Diets Invite Misery

While I don’t know of any scientific evidence of this, I can only speak from experience. The restrictions of a starvation diet can put you in a bad mood and make you less productive. I just know that when restrict my daily diet to the point of eating next to nothing, all I can think about is eating and I am definitely not thinking of work or anything else for that matter. The people around me notice the change in my attitude as well.

Your Body Will Fight to Keep Your Body Fat

When you first start a starvation diet, you will see a big drop in your weight in the form of water weight. While this may be pleasing in the beginning you are not helping yourself at all because you’ll lose something more important, muscle mass. You see, the human body is designed to burn muscle mass first and keep fat on the body in order to survive. Sorry folks it’s in our genetic code and it’s been that way for thousands of years.

Also, the body adjusts to the weight loss anyway (no matter what method you use to lose weight). Your best bet is to start learning how to eat healthy. Then work on losing weight by creating a small calorie deficit each week. Your goal should be to maintain the weight loss after you lose all the weight and the best way to do it is to eat healthy most of the time.

While it’s no question that our society is fighting a battle with obesity. So it is vitally important we not look for use starvation diets for instant gratification when trying to lose weight. There are many ways to lose weight safely and eating whole foods and at the same time you’re not starving yourself. You just need to find what works for yourself and your life style.
